William R. Householder, Jr.

The Honorable William “Bob” R. Householder, Jr., of Oreland, born Feb.28, 1941 and died Jan. 31, 2012.  Bob is survived by his beloved wife Mary Ann (nee Hamilton) and two sons Eric (Dawn) and Keith (Anita) and his 6 grandchildren; as well as his brother Richard and sister Helene.  After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps, Bob dedicated his life to his family and his community.  He served as as Springfield Twp. Police Officer for 33 years.  From patrolman, to juvenile officer, police sergeant, detective sergeant and finally lieutenant, Bob positively touched many lives in the community.  He went on to serve as District Justice in his hometown for 13 years, from 1999 to his retirement in August of 2011.  In addition to his professional career, Bob was incredibly involved in the lives of his boys Eric and Keith, through Boy Scouts, CYO and Bishop McDevitt football.  Additionally, Bob was active in the local VFW. 

Bob loved woodworking, enjoying a beer, grilling, his mountain weekends, hunting, his dogs, being a police officer, a judge, a father, a husband and a friend.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing, Thursday, Feb. 2, 6-8 pm at Holy Martyrs Church, Allison Rd. and Ulmer Ave., Oreland and on Friday Feb. 3 from 10-11 AM followed by his Funeral Mass at 11 AM at Holy Martyrs Church.  Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be sent to Arthur B. Savage, Post 100, 7999 Elm Ave., Wyndmoor, PA  19038.

Yolanda M. Moncayo – obituary

Yolanda M. Moncayo

Yolanda M. Moncayo, of Oreland, died on January 16, 2012.  She was the wife of the late Julio and mother of Sonia (Francisco), Julio (Jenny) and Miguel (Maggie).  She is also survived by 6 granchildren, 6 great grandchildren and her brother Rolando Cobo.  Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass, Saturday, 10:30 AM at Holy Martyrs Church, Allison Rd. and Ulmer Ave., Oreland.  Interment Resurrection Cemetery.  A viewing will be held on Friday, 6-8 PM at Craft of Erdenheim, 814 Bethlehem Pike.   In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be sent to Abington Memorial Hospital, 1200 Old York Road, Abington, PA  19001.

William J. Campbell – Obituary

William J. Campbell

William J. Campbell, of Erdenheim, died suddenly on January 16, 2012.  He was the beloved son of John and Anna (nee Ford) Campbell and brother of John L., III, Eileen Ent and Andrew R.  He is also survived by 3 nieces and 3 nephews.  Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass, Friday, January 20, 10 AM at St. Genevieve Church, 1225 Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown, PA  19031.  Interment George Washington Memorial Park.  Friends may call at the church Friday from 9 AM.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be sent to the above named church.

Nelson G. Harris – Obituary

Nelson G. Harris

Nelson G. Harris, 85, of Lafayette Hill, died peacefully at home on January 10, 2012.  Nelson G. Harris was born October 4, 1926 and grew up in Woodbury, NJ.  He attended Woodbury High School where he graduated in June of 1944.

Following his service in the United States Navy during WWII, Mr. Harris received a Bachelor of Science degree from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1948 and his Juris Doctorate degree from Temple University School of Law in 1953.  He was admitted to the Bar in 1954 and he achieved recognition as a Certified Public Accountant in 1955.

Mr. Harris was associated with the Tasty Baking Company for more than 31 years.  During his tenure he held the positions of Secretary and Treasurer, Vice President of Finance, President and Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

As one of Philadelphia’s most active leaders, Mr. Harris had served as a director or officer of numerous non-profit, civic and cultural institutions such as The Allegheny West Foundation, The Historical Society of Pennsylvania, Settlement Music School, Boy Scouts of America, Pennsylvania Ballet, The United Way, The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, Woodmere Art Museum, Great Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition, The Variety Club and The Philadelphia Plan.

Mr. Harris previously served as a member of the Board of Directors of Bryn Mawr College, Medical College of Pennsylvania, CoreStates Financial Corporation, American Water Works, Inc., PECO Electric Company, Haverford Trust Company and Peirce Phelps, Inc.

As an active golfer, Mr. Harris was a member of Pine Valley Golf Club, Sunnybrook Golf Club and the Philadelphia Cricket Club, where he served as President in 1975-76.  He was also a long time member of The Union League of Philadelphia, where he served as President in 1978-79.

Mr. Harris took a special interest in The Blind Relief Fund of Philadelphia.  Mr. Harris was actively involved with the Blind Relief Fund for over 42 years, serving as its President for 32 of those years.

Mr. Harris received numerous leadership, community service and philanthropic honors, including the William Penn Award, The Police Athletic League of Philadelphia Award, The Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizen Award, Wills Eye Hospital Award for Service to the Blind and Visually Handicapped, The American Red Cross Citizen of the Year Award, The Lewis Braille Award from the Associated Services of the Blind, and The Marine Corp Scholarship Foundation Semper Fidelis Award.

Mr. Harris was married to the former Rita Jane Storrie and resided in Lafayette Hill, PA.  Together they had six children, Stephen (Mariellen), Patricia de Barros (Patrick), David (Janet), William (deceased), Nancy (deceased) and Thomas (Pamela).  He is also survived by his brother, Col. Frank W. Harris, III (Terri) and 10 grandchildren, Lauren, Stephanie, Katherine, Alexandria, Victoria, Rebecca, Hannah, William, Madeline and Storrie.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 14, at the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, 8835 Germantown Ave.  Burial is private. A Visitation will be held on Friday, January 13, from 6-8 PM at Craft of Erdenheim, 814 Bethlehem Pike.

Henry Coleman Webster, Sr. – obituary

Henry Coleman Webster, Sr.

Longtime naturalist, conservationist, birder, business and civic leader Henry Coleman Webster died on October 4, 2011. 

Born December 18, 1926 in Philadelphia, Mr. Webster, known as Hank, graduated from Germantown Friends School in 1944.  He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1949 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, where he was president of Zeta Psi fraternity.

Mr. Webster served in the U.S. Navy as a pilot in the V-5 program that combined flight and engineering, two of his great passions.  During training in Memphis, TN, he met his future wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Slater Webster, who survives him.

Mr. Webster was President of Brooks Instrument Division of Emerson Electric from 1971-1985.  In 1986, he founded WEBCO Controls with his two sons, Edward and Henry, Jr.

Mr. Webster was an accomplished amateur photographer and has bird photos in both the National Aquarium in Baltimore and the Virio Collection at the Academy of Natural Sciences.  An avid bird watcher, he would go to birding locations during his worldwide business travel and continued to travel the world on bird trips into his 80′s.  In addition to his photography and bird watching, Mr. Webster was a talented woodworker and golfer.

He was a longtime member and former President of the Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association (WVWA) who honored him in 2010 as a Trailblazer.  At WVWA, Mr. Webster was the leader in the acquisition and restoration of the Evans-Mumbower Mill, a 19th century grist mill along the Wissahickon Creek.  He was directly involved with the acquisition of the property in 1987 and over the past 24 years led the team of volunteers for the Mill’s restoration, addition to the National Register of Historic Places and opening to the public.  He was also a founder and driving force for the Wissahickon Birdathon, an annual bird event in the Wissahickon Valley.

Mr. Webster was a member of Sunnybrook Golf Club and the Welcome Society.

He is survived my his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Slater Webster and four children, Elizabeth Webster Purvis of Baltimore; Edward Slater Webster of Wyndmoor; Jane Webster Gray of Plymouth Meeting; and Henry Coleman Webster, Jr. of Savannah, GA along with his 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  His sister, Mary Lee Webster Pabst of Port Ludlow, WA also survives him.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8, 1PM at St. Thomas’ Church, Whitemarsh, Camp Hill Rd. and Bethlehem Pike, Fort Washington.
